DX 2517 External Jack Wiring
  • SYMPTOM:
    • Plugging an external speaker into the EXT. SP. jack on the back of the radio causes the PHONE jack on the front panel to stop working.
  • PROBLEM:
    • The external speaker jack and the front panel phone jack may be wired backwards in some DX 2517 radios.
  • SOLUTION:
      Performing steps 1 through 8 will fix this problem and step 9 is for fixing the problem of receiver audio coming through the PA jack on the back of the radio when the mode switch is not in PA mode.  
      1. Remove covers from radio
      2. Unsolder pink wire on the phone jack that comes from the internal speaker.
      3. Unsolder orange wire from main PCB that comes from external speaker PCB marked SP2.
      4. Unsolder yellow wire from the external speaker PCB marked SP3.
      5. Solder this yellow wire to the main PCB where the orange wire in step 3 was.
      6. Unsolder orange wire from SP2 and discard.
      7. Solder new wire from SP2 on external speaker PCB to where pink wire on Phone jack was.
      8. Solder new wire from SP3 on external speaker PCB to pink wire of the internal speaker.
      9. Unsolder buss wire in C245 and replace with a 102 or .001uf ceramic cap.
